#atozchallenge – K is for Kuminho, bewitching young men

A fox who lives for a thousand years becomes a dread, hungry spirit.

Tales abound of the Kuminho or Guminho, shapeshifting fox women who seek the hearts of men … for dinner. They can become beautiful seductresses – there are even tales of a Kuminho who become a twin of a young man’s bride, hoping to ensnare him. It was only when her clothes were removed that her fox-like nature was revealed.

As they can survive only by consuming human hearts, the Kuminho may yet prowl the Korean countryside, bewitching men with their deceptive beauty.
